Overview
Awarded funds are intended for tier 1 and tier 2 prevention activities and may be used for the following:
- Implementation of the comprehensive prevention plan.
Utah Code Section Title 53F-2-525: Block grant funding for prevention programs in public education - Prevention-focused parent seminars.
Utah Code Section Title 53G-9-703: Parent education -- Mental health -- Bullying -- Safety - To supplement specific prevention needs identified by the LEA and that can be justified through data.
- Other evidence-based prevention practices authorized by USBE.
- Prevention Science professional learning.
- Supplies and materials related to implementing prevention programs.
FY25-FY26 Grant Awardees
24 LEAs have been awarded funds for the current funding cycle: July 1, 2024 - June 30, 2026.
FY27-FY28 Application Information
Applications for the July 1, 2026 - June 30, 2028 will be released through Utah Grants in the Fall of 2026.

Substance Use Prevention Instructions
LEAs who choose not to opt into the Prevention Block Grant Application may still apply for Substance Use Prevention funds within the same application.
Substance Use Prevention Awarded funds may be used for the following:
- Substance use prevention and education.
- Substance use prevention training for teachers and administrators.
- District and school programs to supplement, not supplant, existing local prevention efforts in cooperation with local substance abuse authorities.
Positive Behaviors Plan and Suicide Prevention Funds
All LEAs will receive positive behaviors plan and suicide prevention funding through direct flow-through/lump sum funds each Fall, and will not need to request the funds through the Prevention Block Grant application.
