At-Risk Afterschool Meal Program (ASMP)

Overview

At-Risk Afterschool Meal Programs (ASMP) provides free nutritious meals to kids and teens 18 and under during after school hours. Over 120 supervised locations in Utah offer a snack or meals that also provide regularly scheduled educational or enrichment activities.

Feeding locations typically open as school lets out for the day, but may also operate during weekends, holidays, and school vacations, excluding summer vacation. Refer to the Utah State Board of Education Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) for information on becoming a Summer Sponsor.

Qualifying and Applying

ASMP Sponsors handle administrative and financial oversight of the program. Public and private nonprofit organizations that have the ability to manage a food service program, such as schools, faith-based organizations, municipal parks, food banks, Boys and Girls Clubs, and local government agencies, are eligible to become sponsors.

Becoming an ASMP Site

There are many different community locations that can serve as an ASMP site such as schools, community centers, and libraries. In general, each site must show that the site is located in an area of economic need. Opening an ASMP site under an existing sponsor may be easier than you think.

ASMP Sites:

  • Distribute meals to children
  • Provide a sheltered supervised area for eating
  • Provide organized, supervised regularly scheduled education or enrichment activities
  • Attend your sponsor's training
  • Keep daily records of meals served
  • Supervise meal service at your location

Please contact us for assistance understanding qualification requirements or if you need assistance with the application process.

Reimbursement Rates

CACFP Reimbursement Rates | Food and Nutrition Service

Reimbursements for meals served to eligible adults:

  • are made to those institutions that have an agreement with a State agency to operate the ADC component of Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP),
  • are paid out of program funds made available to the State from United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Reimbursements may be paid by the State agencies directly, to independent centers or to sponsoring organizations which then reimburse or use the funds to provide food to sponsored facilities,
  • are based on the number of meals and snacks served to non-residential eligible adults based on the applicable free, reduced price, or paid rate for meals and snacks.

Reimbursement Claims

Claims for reimbursement for this program are due to the Utah State Board of Education monthly using the approved Child Nutrition software system. For monthly due dates, visit USBE's Financial Operations Website, and select Utah Grants to view Utah Grants Reimbursement Schedule.

Submit claims within 60 days after the claimed month.

  • You can amend claims within 60 days or anytime during the fiscal year for fewer meals.
