Educator Endorsements
Overview
The College and Career Awareness course is taught by a team of teachers with the appropriate license and endorsement. Each teacher is required to have the appropriate license and endorsement. This is a required middle school course for Grade 7 and/or Grade 8. College and Career Awareness also requires support and classroom interaction with a school counselor, and where available, a Work-Based Learning coordinator.
Note: Because College and Career Awareness is a core curriculum requirement, a teacher must have an Associate or Professional Elementary or Secondary Education License with the appropriate endorsement. A CTE License will not meet this requirement.
General CTE Endorsements: Grades 7-12
The following CTE endorsements qualify Secondary Education License teachers to be on the College and Career Awareness teacher team:
- Agriculture (CTE/General)
- Business and Marketing(CTE/General)
- Family and Consumer Sciences Education (CTE/General)
- Intro to Health Science or Medical Anatomy and Physiology
- Technology and Engineering Education or Technology
A teacher with one of the above endorsements is then qualified to teach all or part of the course. It is recommended that collectively the College and Career Awareness team teachers have at least three of these endorsements.
Endorsements: Grades 6-8
The endorsements listed below are available to assist educators in becoming qualified to teach CTE courses in grades 6-8 when a CTE-endorsed teacher is not available. These endorsements can only be given to teachers with an Associate/Professional Elementary Education or an Associate/Professional Secondary Education License.
Note: To teach College and Career Awareness (CCA), educators need to hold at least one qualifying endorsement from the list below. Each endorsement not only qualifies an educator to teach CCA but may also authorize instruction in additional CTE courses, depending on the endorsement’s scope. With endorsements varying in their coverage and requirements, educators are encouraged to review the specific details for each endorsement option to determine the best fit for their teaching goals and career pathway.
