Educator Data Privacy & Security Training

While educating students is your primary role in Utah schools, you are simultaneously charged with the responsibility of keeping personal data private. These responsibilities are formally outlined in Utah's Government Data Privacy Act (Utah Code §63A-19). This means only sharing information with individuals who are permitted to know and protecting data from unauthorized access. Your day-to-day actions—such as thinking twice before sharing, locking your computer screen, and recognizing phishing attempts—are key in upholding the law and protecting our community.

State-Mandated Training Requirements

Annual Requirement (All Employees): Under the Government Data Privacy Act, all employees must complete a data privacy training program at least once a year.

New Hires: New employees must complete training within 30 days of beginning employment.
