School Safety Needs Assessments 2024 - 2025

Overview

House Bill (H.B.) 84 (2024) requires all Local Education Agencies (LEAs) to ensure a School Safety Needs Assessment is completed for each school within the LEA to determine its needs and deficiencies.

For the 2024 - 2025 year, the State Security Chief and the School Safety Center recommend using a nationally recognized tool, such as:

Summary Form and Application for Alternatives

The School Safety and Security Specialist, the County Security Chief or designee, the school administrator, and other individuals involved in a school's School Safety Needs Assessment shall submit the summary results of their assessment. LEAs and schools can also submit an application for alternatives to the State Security Chief using the same form.

Qualtrics

Schools will use the Qualtrics form linked above to report their school safety needs assessment summary for the 2024-2025 school year. This form is also used to submit an application to the State Security Chief for any of the eligible areas for school-level alternatives listed in Utah Code Section 53G-8-701.5(3).

LEAs will use the same Qualtrics form (linked above) to submit an application to the State Security Chief for any of the eligible areas for LEA-level alternatives listed in Utah Code Section 53G-8-701.5(3).

Schools and LEAs can use the resource guides listed below to ensure successful submission of the Qualtrics form.
