The Utah School Safety Center strives to provide up-to-date and ongoing professional learning to support schools with implementing best practices within school safety. Utah School Safety Conference
The Utah School Safety Center is excited to share that we are hosting the Utah School Safety Conference annually. This will be the conference to attend! We create a unique conference experience for Utah each year.

Target Audience: School Safety and Security Specialists, School Building Administrators, LEA School Safety and Security Directors, Crisis-Response Team Members, School-based Mental Health Professionals, School Resource Officers (SROs) and Law Enforcement, School Board Members, Policy Makers, and other school employees who support school safety.

Standard Response Protocol and Standard Reunification Method Trainings
Standard Response Protocol (SRP)TM and Standard Reunification Method (SRM)TM are both significant enhancements to school safety planning. The SRP has been adopted by thousands of schools across the U.S. and Canada. Following Utah Code Section 53G-8-803, all Utah schools are mandated to adopt these protocols. The SRM, introduced in 2012, addresses the crucial task of reuniting students with their parents after an emergency.
Targe Audience: School Safety and Security Specialists (optional), LEA School Safety and Security Directors, School Building Administrators, Crisis-Response Team Members, Community and School-based Mental Health Professionals, School Resource Officers (SROs) and Law Enforcement, Fire / Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel, and other school employees who support school safety.

March 20-21, 2025 - Standard Reunification Method Exercise
The "I Love U Guys" Foundation's two-day in-person advanced seminar on the SRM Exercise (REx) aims to demonstrate to emergency response and school safety personnel the various capabilities available for managing, organizing, and reuniting staff and students affected by an emergency, whether is is manmade, technological, or natural.

Comprehensive School Threat Assessment Guidelines (CSTAG)
The CSTAG training is the foundation to help Local Education Agencies (LEAs) create and implement an evidence-based behavior threat assessment. This is achieved through a multidisciplinary team approach in accordance with Utah Code Section 53G-8-802 and Board Rule R277-400.
Structure: This training is a 6-8 hour session for up to 100 participants. It includes in-person instruction and peer-to-peer collaboration.
Target Audience: School officials who serve on the school's threat assessment multidisciplinary team such as School Administrators, School Safety and Security Specialists, LEA School Safety and Security Directors, School Resource Officers, and School-based Mental Health Providers (School Counselors, School Psychologists, School Social Workers).

PREPaRE Trainings

PREPaRE Workshop 1 (3rd Edition)
In this one-day workshop of the PREPaRE 3rd Edition, participants will learn how to establish and sustain comprehensive school safety efforts that attend to both physical and psychological safety. The workshop addresses critical components needed to develop, exercise, and evaluate safety and crisis teams and plans, and conduct building vulnerability assessments. The model also integrates school personnel and community provider roles in providing school-based crisis preparedness and response activities.
Target Audience: School-based Mental Health Providers (School Counselors, School Psychologists, School Social Workers), Student Services Directors, Prevention Specialists, School Safety and Security Specialists, School Administrators.

To Request School Safety Training
The Utah State Board of Education (USBE) Student Services Training Request Portal (TRP) is an online tool for LEAs to request specific Professional Learning (PL) and Technical
Assistance (TA) support from the USBE. The information submitted is used to help coordinate
PL and TA across the state to ensure that LEA needs are addressed and met in an efficient
manner.
