Child Sexual Abuse and Human Trafficking Prevention

Overview

The Utah State Legislatures Utah Code Section Title 53G-9-207: Child Sexual Abuse Prevention outlines the following actions.  

• requires that the Board, in partnership with the Department of Human Services, approve instructional materials for child sexual abuse and human trafficking prevention.
• requires Local Education Agencies (LEAs) to use the instructional materials approved by the Board to provide child sexual abuse and human trafficking prevention and awareness training and instruction of school personnel and the parents/guardians of elementary school students.
• provides that a school district or charter school may provide child sexual abuse and human trafficking prevention and awareness instruction to elementary school students, subject to certain requirements.
• approve the guidelines for instructional materials for child sexual abuse and human trafficking prevention. Those minimum guidelines were developed with help from multiple state agencies, prevention advocates, and other experts in the field.

Utah State Board of Education Administrative Rule R277-630: Child Sexual Abuse and Human Trafficking (CSA/HT) Prevention Training and Instruction, specifies provision for a third party provider to submit instructional materials for the CSA/HT prevention training and instruction to be approved for use by a Local Education Agency (LEA).
