Food Distribution Programs (FDP)
The Food Distribution Programs (FDP) provide USDA Foods to eligible schools and organizations participating in federal Child Nutrition Programs. USDA Foods are U.S.-grown and produced foods purchased by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to support nutrition programs and American agriculture.
USDA Foods for Schools
Sponsors participating in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and eligible Summer
Food Service Program (SFSP) sponsors may receive USDA Foods for use in program meals.
USDA Foods assistance for NSLP is based on lunches served from the previous school
year or program year and the current federal rate.
- USDA Foods may be used in eligible program meals.
- To receive USDA Foods, Recipient Agencies (RAs), or eligible sponsors, must complete the annual application by the established deadline.
Cash in Lieu of USDA Foods
Eligible Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) institutions receive USDA Foods
assistance as cash in lieu of donated foods. The federally established value is adjusted
annually.

Each year, USDA establishes the value of USDA Foods assistance for the school year, July 1 through June 30. The rate applies to eligible NSLP lunches and CACFP lunches and suppers and is published annually in the Federal Register.

In coordination with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Administration (FNA), the Utah State Board of Education Child Nutrition Program (CNP) distributes policy memorandums to provide guidance and clarification on program requirements and regulations.
