Brent J. Strate

Biography
Brent Strate was born and raised in rural Spring City, Utah. His parents were active in civic affairs and encouraged their children to be service oriented. His family had a small 40-acre farm and a large garden. Brent learned to work hard at home, in his schoolwork, and for local farmers during the summer months. His parents both worked for the local school district. Brent and his two brothers all became educators.
Brent graduated from Snow College and Utah State University with a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education with a Social Studies Composite. He earned his master’s degree in Education from the University of Phoenix and his Educational Leadership endorsement from Western Governors University. Brent taught at South Ogden Jr. High for 10 years and Bonneville High for 20 years where he taught Utah History, U.S. History, Geography, Government, World History, Economics and Personal Financial Literacy. He also coached football, basketball, track, and cross country.
In 2011 Brent was elected to serve as a council member for South Ogden City. In this capacity he focused on economic development and financial sustainability. He served as the liaison for South Ogden on the Ogden/Weber Chamber of Commerce where he chose to focus on the legislature and partners in education committees.
For the past three years Brent has served on the State Board of Education’s Assessment and Accountability Policy Advisory Committee and participated on the Utah Assessment Strategic Plan Work Group.
Brent and his wife have seven children and three grandchildren. They reside in South Ogden.
