Description

Purpose

The purpose of this interagency agreement between the Utah State Board of Education (USBE) and Utah System of Higher Education is for the "USHE Concurrent Enrollment Math Multiple Measures Pilot" pilot is to identify the effectiveness of student performance measures used to predict student success in college Math courses taught in Concurrent Enrollment (CE) settings. The data gathered during the pilot will be evaluated to develop a concordance of multiple measures used to place high school students into concurrent enrollment Math classes.

34 CFR § 99.31(a), 20 U.S. Code § 1232g(b). This data sharing is permitted under the “School Official Exception” of the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

Utah Code 53A-1-1301
Charges the Board of Regents shall, "allow a student, upon completion of required high school mathematics courses with at least a "C" grade, entry into a mathematics concurrent enrollment course." The ALEKS PPL will provide prescriptive data which may be used to validate the "C" grade as an indicator of readiness for college Math courses. ALEKS PPL will also identify specific strengths or deficits in high school students knowledge base after completing the three Math classes required for high school graduation.
