Description

Purpose

The purpose of this interagency agreement between the Utah State Board of Education and University of Utah (U of U) is for the for U of U to develop and evaluate the efficacy of an augmentative online teaching software to improve student engagement during Zoom classes. The proposed study will recruit participants from the Utah Virtual Academy (UTVA). This is a public charter school that focuses on academic and social learning for children. This Academy was selected due its instructional nature that closely aligns with assessing the objectives of this study. The study will recruit teachers (n = 6) across the K-12 programs at the UTVA. The research assistants will recruit participants by attending online faculty meetings and describing the availability and purposes of this software tool. Additionally, school administrators will disseminate a flyer with information about the study.

Legal Authority

34 CFR § 99.31(a)(6) and 20 U.S. Code § 1232g(b). This data sharing is permitted under the “Studies Exception” of the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
