New Leaders' Summit
New Leaders' Summit is a series of training sessions presented by the Utah Program Improvement Planning Systems (UPIPS) team for individuals in their first three years as special education directors, or other Local Education Agency (LEA) personnel who may benefit from the content provided. Each LEA is required to meet basic compliance and reporting requirements as outlined in state and federal regulations. The roles of those responsible for overseeing these requirements are determined by the LEA. This role may be fulfilled by a designated person (example: special education director, special education coordinator, special education specialist) or a whole team within the LEA. New Leaders' Summit is intended to support these leadership roles across all LEAs, regardless of titles. The training sessions are intended to help new special education leaders establish a strong foundation of knowledge by gaining a more in-depth understanding of the Utah State Board of Education (USBE) Special Education Rules and compliance with federal reporting requirements. Specialists from the USBE Special Education Section provide targeted instruction on a variety of topics with an emphasis on the Annual Performance Report (APR) indicators and compliance.
