Mitigating Student Safe School Violations

Overview

Creating a safe school environment requires a comprehensive approach directed toward mitigating safe school violations and providing targeted interventions for students. Schools have the right and responsibility to be spaces of learning where every student has the opportunity to learn in an environment that is safe, conducive to the learning process, and free from unnecessary disruption. Schools can foster such an environment by creating policies and plans designed to mitigate safe school violations. A well-crafted discipline policy and school plan begins with being informed of laws and regulations dealing with safe schools. These policies and plans should be shared widely with educators, parent, and students and updated regularly. Additionally, schools should have the appropriate tools for threat assessment to prevent violence and resolve conflicts or problems that influence threatening behavior.
