AI-Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence (AI), as defined in the Utah State Board of Education’s AI Framework, is “computer systems that are taught to automate tasks normally requiring human intelligence.” Generative AI systems in education can help educators and learners create documents, refine data, and collaboratively create materials. Generative AI systems are a developing technology whose output may be inaccurate, misleading, or incomplete. USBE’s Steering Committee for Artificial Intelligence (SCAI) monitors AI in education for potential benefits and to safeguard students and educators from harm created by AI.

Busing, Transportation, District Boundaries

R277-600 Board Rule Student Transportation Procedures  Goes over how funds are used for bus transportation as well as bus routes, alternative transportation and expenses/funding.

R277-601 Board Rule Utah Buses and Operations The purpose of this rule is to specify standards for state student transportation funds, school buses, and school bus drivers utilized by school districts.

R277-621 Board Rule District of Residence  Establishes rules for determination of a student's district of residency in accordance with the statute.  The purpose of this rule is to establish the procedure for reviewing a student's request for an alternative district of residency in accordance with Subsections 53G-6-302(2)(b)(iii) and 53G-6-302(2)(b)(iv).

Children's Nutrition

Child Nutrition Department at Utah State Board of Education.  Child Nutrition Programs help to ensure the children of Utah have adequate access to safe and nutritious foods. Meeting this basic need is essential to their establishment of a healthy eating pattern and development of a strong foundation for academic achievement.
 
This department provides information on the following programs for families and children:  National School Lunch, Afterschool Snack Program, School Breakfast, Summer food programs, Milk program, Adult Day Care, At-Risk Afterschool Meal Programs, Child and Adult Care Food Programs, Child Care Center, Head Start and Emergency Shelters, Family Day Care Homes and other information on partners in the community regarding food programs.

Utah Code Student Clubs 53G-7-701  Gives definitions and context of school clubs.

Utah Code Student clubs -- Limited open forum -- Authorization. 53G-7-702. Gives definitions and rules for open forum in regards to school clubs.  

Utah Code Curricular Clubs 53G-7-703 Defines and gives rules for Curricular Clubs in public schools.

Utah State Board of Education Board Rules  A list of all administrative board rules for the Utah State Board of Education.  These are created under the guidance of Utah State Code which is created by the law makers and legislators of the State of Utah for public education.  

Utah State Code for Education  These are the laws created by the law makers of the State of Utah for public education.  There are several sections within code.  The are as follows:

Head Injuries

R277-614 Board Rule  Athletes and Students with Head Injuries The purpose of this rule is to direct LEAs under the general control and supervision of the Utah State Board of Education to adopt and enforce a head injury policy for students participating in physical education and extracurricular sporting events.

R277-605 Board Rule Coaching Standards and Athletic Clinics Describes all requirements for coaching and clinics.  

Utah Code Participation in Female Sports 53G-6-9 Describes legislation for participation in female sports.

Utah Code Student Eligibility in Interscholastic Activities 53G-6-10 Describes legislation for school activity eligibility, accommodations, etc. 

Utah Code Title IX Athletics Reporting Action Plan 53G-6-1101 Requirements for reporting on interscholastic sports at said school, gender categorization and an action plan for addressing discrepancy to state Governing Board.

Utah PTA Student Leadership Information on Utah PTA student leadership programs, committees and events.

R277-316 Board Rule Professional Standards and Training for Non-licensed Employees and Volunteers establishes rules and minimum standards for the public schools regarding the qualification and certification of educators and ancillary personnel who provide direct student services.

Utah Code 53G-11-402.  Background checks for non-licensed employees, contract employees, volunteers, and charter school governing board members.   Gives direction and laws for background checks.
