In 2014, the Utah State Legislature passed Senate Bill (S.B.) 43: Intergenerational Poverty Interventions in Public Schools (sponsored by Senator Reid), which provided funding for afterschool programming. Administered through the Utah State Board of Education, individual grants were made available to Local Education Agencies (LEAs) for new or existing afterschool programs that provided targeted services for students affected by intergenerational poverty. Through a competitive application process, eleven LEAs were awarded grants.
The LEAs that received this funding include:
Intergenerational Poverty Interventions Afterschool Program
University of Utah Education Policy Center
Utah's Intergenerational Poverty (IGP) Initiative
Department of Workforce Services
R277-710: Intergenerational Poverty Interventions in Public Schools
