In 2017, the Utah State Legislature passed House Bill (H.B.) 43: American Indian and Alaskan Native Education Amendments (sponsored by Senator Michael Noel), which received and appropriation of $250,000 for the next four years to create a pilot program to fund stipends, recruitment, and retention of teachers who teach in American Indian and Alaskan Native concentrated schools.
