Skills Tests
Skills Certifications
Protocol and Ethics
Skill Certificate tests must be administered consistently and ethically. Violations of testing rules and procedures constitute a breach of professional ethics and will be reported to the Professional Practices Commission.
All proctors are required to sign and abide by the YouScience Proctor agreement, which outlines the rules and expectations for administering exams.
Performance Skills
Performance evaluation is an integral part of the Skill Certificate process. Students will be assessed on the practical skills taught in their CTE course, as defined in the strands and standards document. In-class evaluations, conducted by the teacher, require students to demonstrate at least 80% proficiency ("moderately to highly skilled") in all areas to receive a certificate.
Cut Scores
Beginning in the 2024-25 school year, certification cut scores will transition from
Utah's 80% standard to national cut scores, generally ranging from 71-76%. This change
aligns us with national benchmarks, providing a more accurate reflection of student
knowledge and skills.
Note: Tests that are in pilot phase will remain at 80% until a cut score is established.
Retakes
Retakes are available on all tests. Students may retake certification exams provided they are completed before the class ends and adhere to the following waiting periods:
- 1st retake: 1-day waiting period
- 2nd retake: 3-day waiting period
