Description

Purpose

The purpose of this contract between the Utah State Board of Education and Nicole Reitz-Larsen is to provide targeted, ongoing, blended (local and online) professional learning for elementary teachers in rural contexts and rich curriculum modules that integrate science and computer science concepts to serve as models, then more rural teachers will be prepared and confident to engage students in these types of activities in their own classrooms.

34 CFR § 99.31(a), 20 U.S. Code § 1232g(b). This data sharing is permitted under the “School Official Exception” of the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

HB 227 Utah Computer Science Grant Act
This law established a grant program to improve computer science outcomes and course offerings, including providing effective training opportunities for licensed teachers. This aligns with the goal of preparing teachers to engage students in computer science activities.
