Description

Purpose

The purpose of this interagency agreement between the Utah State Board of Education and Department of Workforce Services is to provide training on the use of assistive technology; evaluate students in public schools special education programs; and maximize the use of the assistive technology equipment by maintaining a computerized inventory, loaning and shipping equipment, and assisting with the acquisition of new technology.

Legal Authority

34 CFR § 99.31(a), 20 U.S. Code § 1232g(b). This data sharing is permitted under the “School Official Exception” of the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA): 34 CFR Part 300.105(b)
Appropriate AT devices and services can allow students with disabilities to participate in and benefit from the general education curriculum and to meet IEP goals and help provide a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) as required by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).This project is to support federal and state regulations that require the Individualized Education Program (IEP) team to consider the students’ need for assistive technology devices and services
