Teacher leaders are teachers who want to make a difference beyond their classrooms, and do so by assuming either formal or informal leadership roles within their schools.
Although the specific roles and responsibilities of teacher leaders can vary greatly, the primary purpose of teacher leadership is to help create schools where all students are safe, valued, and learn at high levels.
Examples of Teacher Leader responsibilities:
- Teacher leaders help create collaborative school cultures that include commitments to collective responsibility for high levels of student learning and the process of ongoing continuous improvement.
- Teacher leaders help develop a shared school vision, mission, and goals, and help teachers align their practices to them.
- Teacher leaders help improve the quality of teaching and learning in schools through mentoring, coaching, and other job-embedded professional learning opportunities for teachers and staff
