School counselors are involved regularly in updating and sharing their professional knowledge and skills through ongoing professional development. The purpose of the school counseling program calendar is to help school counselors, and other educators, with forward planning of Utah State Board of Education-sponsored training opportunities and events. Dates outlined include professional development opportunities, as well as important school counseling reporting deadlines.
The next School Counseling Program Elementary Updates and Essentials training will be held 2021-2022.
The secondary School Counseling Program Updates and Essentials training is for school counselors and administrators and is required every six years as outlined in the Assurances of the School Counseling Program Performance Review. This training has been changed from an in-person to an online training through Canvas. It is recommended that the school counselor(s) and administrator(s) enroll and complete this training at the same time as a team during the school year prior to the 6-year on-site formal review. Taking this course simultaneously enhances collaboration, aligns school counseling programs with school improvement goals, and strengthens the partnership between school counselors and administrators.
The online School Counseling Program Updates and Essentials Canvas course will be offered twice each school year, both Fall and Spring semesters.
Fall Semester: September - December 2020
Coursework deadline is December 31, 2020
Spring Semester: January - April 2021
Coursework deadline is April 30, 2021
This course is designed for you and/or your team to work at your own pace. However, you must have everything submitted by the last day of the month for the semester in which you are enrolled (December 31, 2020, or April 20, 2021).
If this coursework is not completed by the deadline, you will not receive credit for meeting compliance and will be required to re-enroll in a later course. Course registration for each semester will close 30 days prior to the coursework deadline.
To begin the School Counseling Program Updates and Essentials training in Canvas, you must self-enroll into the course by completing the following steps.
Fall Semester: September - December 2020
Spring Semester: January - April 2021
