Martell Menlove, Ph.D.

The Utah State Board of Education named Martell Menlove as the 29th State Superintendent of Public Instruction in October 2012.

As State Superintendent, Menlove serves as the executive officer of the elected Utah State Board of Education which is constitutionally vested with the general control and supervision of the state’s K-12 public education system.

Menlove has a long service history in public education. Before being named Superintendent, he served for nearly four years as Deputy Superintendent and before that was Superintendent of the Box Elder School District for 12 years.

He began his education career as an elementary and middle school teacher in the Jordan School District and has served in administrative positions in the Tooele and Rich School Districts.

He was named Utah Superintendent of the Year in 2006. He holds a doctorate in special education from Utah State University where he has also been an instructor, teaching courses in special education. He also has worked with Utah’s Rural Schools Association and the state’s High School Activities Association.
