Utah Special Education Advisory Panel (USEAP)

USEAP is an advisory panel appointed by the State Superintendent of Public Instruction. The focus of the panel is issues involving the education of students with disabilities.

Duties:

  • Advise the State Education Agency on developing and implementing policies relating to collaboration with other agencies for services to students with disabilities.
  • Advise the State Education Agency on developing corrective action plans to address the findings identified in federal monitoring reports under Part B of Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
  • Advise the State Education Agency on developing evaluations and reporting on data collection.
  • Advise the State Education Agency on eligible students with disabilities in prisons.
  • Advise the State Education Agency on unmet needs.
  • Comment publicly on any rules for regulations proposed by the state regarding the education of students with disabilities.

2014-2015 Priorities:

  • Improving expectations regarding students with disabilities across all stakeholder groups
  • Supporting the instruction of students with disabilities in Utah Core Standards or Essential Elements with focus on numeracy
  • School-to-post-school-transition planning
  • State Systemic Improvement Plan (SSIP)
