COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY | COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY II

Students gain an understanding of computer application software that includes word processing, spreadsheet, database, and telecommunications.

Standards and Objectives - PDF

STANDARD 1
Students will enhance keyboarding skills.

Students will develop knowledge of computer basics and use an operating system.

HISTORY OF COMPUTERS
Students review the history of computer technology, progression to systems of today, types of computers used in a variety of settings, and trends for the future.

STATE TEST REVIEW
Students complete activities and review materials to prepare for the state test.

STANDARD 3
Students will apply document-processing skills. Each student will be able to use the following
when creating a letter, memo, report, or other business document.

ALIGNMENT
Students follow along with a demonstration that portrays horizontal formatting applications, and then compare, contrast and label ten printed entries that show left, right, center and justified alignment as well as the use of expanded spacing and right tab with dot leaders.

WORD PROCESSING
Students complete a five-unit lesson on word processing. All documents included.

STANDARD 4
Students will create spreadsheets and manipulate data. Each student will be able to perform the
following tasks.

SPREADSHEET ACTIVITIES
Students create budgets using Excel.

SPREADSHEET FORMATTING
Students click and explore to discover how to control the appearance of an Excel spreadsheet.

SPREADSHEET OPERATORS AND FORMULAS
Students learn a spreadsheet is a tool that can help solve the numeric "story problems" of your life. This assignment introduces how to set up Excel formulas based on fifteen simple scenarios.

STANDARD 5
Students will demonstrate an understanding of ethics related to computer technology. Each
student will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the following topics.

COMPUTER ETHICS
Students navigate through a prepared PowerPoint presentation that explains important information about ethics, rules and laws.

ETHICS
The "Ethics School" serves as a positive intervention for AUP violators. It consists of five
30-minute sessions that seek to improve perspective and personal responsibility in decisions relating to computer use and beyond. Each has a session outline that details instructional procedures.

ETHICS PRESENTATION
Students use a storyboard, which represents an ethical dilemma related to the use of computers to create a PowerPoint presentation.

STANDARD 6
Students will access online information resources. Each student will be able to perform the
following tasks.

TIMELINE
Students see a timeline line of their life and identify specific technological and world events that have happened during their lifetime.

STANDARD 7
Students will successfully use electronic mail (email). Using his/her own account, each student
will be able to perform the following tasks.

MYSTERY EMAIL
Students learn the function of email in an activity that helps them also get to know other students in the class.

STANDARD 8
Students will create an electronic presentation. The presentation should include the following

ALL ABOUT ME POWERPOINT
Students complete a follow-up assignment after learning how to create a PowerPoint presentation.

LEARNING POWERPOINT
Students create a PowerPoint presentation using various slide layouts, transitions, automatic timing, graphic and text.

POWERPOINT
Students complete a unit on PowerPoint presentation. All unit files included.

STANDARD 9
Students will use their document processing, spreadsheet and/or electronic presentation skills to
complete a cross curricular project during the semester (or trimester, etc.) in which they are
enrolled in the Computer Technology course.

INTEGRATED PROJECT
Students complete a student-driven integrated project. Lesson provides tools to help define and organize the process and outcome.

ONLINE RESOURCES
Students use their document processing, spreadsheet and/or electronic presentation skills to complete a cross curricular project during the semester (or trimester, etc.,) in which they are enrolled in the Computer Technology course.

COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY II
This course applies advanced concepts and principles using word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and electronic presentation software. Students will integrate applications learned. This course builds on skills included in Computer Technology.

Students learn how to use if statements and calculate data using formulas and words.

LOOKUP FUNCTIONS
Students learn how to perform horizontal and vertical lookups using Excel.

STANDARD 4
Students will build on electronic presentation skills to create and edit slides.

BUSINESS STATE APPROVED TEXTBOOKS

Schools need to purchase basal/core or recommended primary materials that have gone through an independent alignment to the Utah Core. Schools may still purchase materials not listed on the state RIMs list as long as they have been reviewed and approved by their local school board.
