How was it developed?

The Common Core State Standards Initiative (CCSSI) was launched by the National Governor's Association (NGA) and the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO), both private organizations under the control of the state governors and superintendents, in coordination with 48 state school boards, in an effort to upgrade educational standards in mathematics and English/language Arts (ELA). The CCSSI brought together a wide variety of public and private entities, both Republicans and Democrats, conservatives, moderates and liberals to work in collaboration on one goal: elevating our educational standards.
